Green Building Consulting.
Green building is gaining remarkable traction around the globe, we are proud to announce that we are now offering green building consulting in line with the green building council of South Africa’s certification requirements for new green buildings in South Africa & Africa. The Green Star SA rating system includes nine separate environmental impact categories which are listed below together with a brief compendious summary:
|
1. Management
The management category advocates the ratification of environmental principles from project initiation, project blueprint and building phases, to commissioning, tuning and functioning of the building and its network. The goal of the accredited green building professional on the project is to guide the project team in realizing its ambitions for green building certification through knowledge ,understanding and the processes of the green star new buildings rating tool. The accredited professional roles & responsibility also include collection and collation of the relevant documentation and data required for submission to the green building council of South Africa as well as being the liaison between the green building council of South Africa & the project team.
2. Indoor Environment Quality
The numerous elements of the indoor environment quality category are primarily concerned with the well being of building occupants & building attributes which contribute to a healthy & productive indoor environment. Comfort factors addressed in this category include but are not limited to climate control, external views, noise levels, minimisation of volatile organic compounds, mold prevention, heating, cooling & ventilation amongst a number of other aspects.
|
3. Energy
The core aspect of the energy category is a comprehensive reduction in energy usage which will be achieved through more efficient use of energy as well as energy generated from alternative sources.
|
4. Transport
The transport category concerns itself with alternative methods of transportation such as carpooling, reduction of maximum parking facilities, cycling, the use of hybrid vehicles & the proximity of the development to major transport hubs amongst other defining characteristics. The reduction in automotive transport decreases the consumption of archaic fossil fuels generated by automotive transport. These archaic fossil fuels generate & contribute to greenhouse gasses & related emissions in our atmosphere. The reduction of automotive transport by incorporating facilities that promote alternative means of transport are ultimately rewarded.
|
5. Water
The water category targets the curtailment of potable water usage through systematic design of building systems, rainwater collection & water reuse which includes greywater & blackwater.
|
6. Materials
The fundamental concepts of the materials category are to decrease the amount of natural resources & virgin materials used, recover whatever materials can be rehashed, and recycle as much as & whenever possible through efficient management practices.
|
7. Land Use & Ecology
The land use and ecology category deals with the effect the project will have on the environment which the proposed development is to be built. The primary focus of this category is to reduce the impact on the land which is rich in biodiversity & ecological systems. Ultimately, the goal is to negate the negative aspects a project will have on its environment & enhance the positive impacts the project will have on its environment.
|
8. Emissions
The emissions category focuses on the environmental effects concerned with a building’s discharge of emissions and related aspects.
|
9. Innovation
